The Royal Canadian Air Force Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancers

The RCAF Pipes and Drums are from Ottawa and have a rich history dating back to their inception in 1949 at Canadian Forces Station Rockcliffe.

Originally formed to support RCAF official ceremonies and provide musical accompaniment, the band has since evolved into a cherished institution within the Royal Canadian Air Force and National Capital Region. In 2005, the Pipes and Drums relocated to their current home at the former CFB Uplands, marking a new chapter in their storied legacy.

As the longest-serving Regular Force Pipes and Drums in the RCAF, the band boasts a large membership base of both civilian and military volunteers, totaling approximately 50 pipers, drummers, and highland dancers. Led by Pipe Major – Warrant Officer Josh McFarlane, Pipe Sergeants – Master Corporal Tim Reid and Corporal Dave Zarboni, Drum Instructor – Master Corporal Walter Gammeter, and Drum Major – Chris Renwick, the band maintains a tradition of excellence and professionalism. The RCAF Dancers are led by Ms. Chelsea Champagne and Ms. Kayleigh Armstrong.

Beyond ceremonial duties, the band plays a vital role in representing the RCAF at various high-profile events, both domestically and internationally. From the solemn National Remembrance Day ceremonies in Ottawa to the jubilant Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill, the RCAF Pipes and Drums will continue to proudly showcase their musical talent and dedication to service, embodying the spirit of the Royal Canadian Air Force, for generations to come.

The RCAF Pipes and Drums and Highland Dancers are performing under the kind permission of Commanding Officer, Capt Catherine Norris, and Senior Warrant Officer, MWO Simon Paré.
